Bernard Samson's Berlin (part one)

Game, Set & Match

Berlin itself is one of the most effective characters in the ten novels in the Bernard Samson series of stories. In the west and the east, Bernard is at home, and knows the people he can trust....and those he cannot.

These photos identify the sites in Berlin which occur within the books and in the subsequent 1988 TV adaptation of Game, Set & Match. Read the accompanying guide to section one here.

In addition, you can find the location of these and other locations pertinent to the Samson stories on the Deighton Dossier Google Maps page.

Gateway to Berlin

The only bit left of the Anhalter Bahnhof after the war was part of the main entrance. The station - where Bernard and Werner regularly meet - was the gateway to Austria and southern Germany, and often the station at which Hitler would meet foreign dignitaries.
